  • There is created a Porter County hazardous materials council. The Porter County health officer shall be the permanent chairman of the hazardous materials council. The health officer or his designee shall call and chair all meetings of the council, and the staff of the Porter County health department shall provide support and assistance to the council. The council shall have a maximum of forty (40) members who will serve upon the appointment and at the pleasure of the Porter County health officer. Members of the council shall receive no compensation for service on the council. In making appointments to the hazardous materials council, the Porter County health officer shall balance its membership both geographically and demographically. In making appointments to the hazardous materials council, the Porter County health officer shall also balance its membership between representatives of local units of government and private industry in Porter County. The health officer's appointments to the hazardous materials council shall also be individuals who have shown an interest and knowledge in hazardous materials and substance handling.
